We used to have one of those style drills. Are you trying to let the drill run too low? By this i mean how low are the gauge wheels set to run? We found when drilling wheat we had to raise the gauge wheels up a notch. In beans we could set it back down. The wheat was plugging up in the tubes as you describe. We were running with the down pressure at max and setting the wheels up , didn't seem to affect our planting performance.
