Hay Wilson in TX

Subject: RE: Da*** Fire ants

Little River, TX
Here, in CenTex, the fire ant panic is over. When the first wandered in, probably from Mobile, Alabama, you could walk across a pasture stepping only on fire ant mounds.

They got in hay barns and that was fun. They would build mounds up into windrows, and into bales of hay left out overnight.

Now I may have one mound per acre in my hay fields.

They got rid of just about anything that nests on the ground, and for maybe 10 years we were chigger (red bug) free. The chiggers are back as are the rabbits.

One thing for sure, anhydrous at 500 lbs/Acre did not discourage them. I believe there are now predators of fire ants moving in.
