Wyoming | There are still some ranches in northeastern Nevada that use them. I can think of one ranch in particular, just south of Secret Pass in Elko County that I saw using a Hesston "loafer" as they're known here. I've never seen one used for anything other than native grass hay. They'll drop the loads off near the edges of the field, on the high side of the meadow, and grab the hay with a grapple/claw on a front loader in the winter and put it into a grinder and then make a windrow, or they'll grab the hay and just dump it in piles out in the frozen pasture. Yea, they're cheeeeeep. That's why you see them on Nevada ranches. They also take almost no HP to run around a field. |
