My opinion -- as a hybrid owner - and a mechanic -- forget the hybrid. If the hybrid vehicle had put the R&D + production $$$$$ from the electric portion of the vehicle into the ICE side, the resulting vehicle would likely out perform the the hybrid and be cheaper to own long term. If you expect all short trips, get a battery car.
