I believe so. I have been around the PM400 a little but never a PM300, but it sure seems like it works like an old SM3000 and will just detect how many rows it sees.
Now, as far as row numbers, it may number them goofy if you don't plug them in row 1-8 because it knows what pin in the connector is each sensor wire...but I'm betting even if you have it in 1-3-5-7-9-11-13-15 it will still only show you 8 bar graphs.
