Southeast Colorado | Many years ago Dad and I did about 50 cows that my Uncle had let get out of control.............a few months after he passed away. It was kind of interesting. We banded them.............and then went ahead and cut the horns off within about a 2" of the head with a sawzall. And then with the blood flow slowed, we cauterized them.
It really went pretty well.................but the only thing we figured out later was that we should have ran them back through in a couple of days and cut the bands off. It really irritated them for a good month. And we had let them out into the pasture and didn't have the greatest way of getting them back into the chute. It worked out OK..............but it definitely put the cows through some unneeded trauma and weight loss. | |
