Subject: Diet soda - flavor water

Pittsburg, Kansas
Edit: reply to littlejohn about artificial sweetener

For me personally they were part of the addiction problem. They kept me craving the sweet taste. I assume everyone does not have that problem.

They may be an appropriate crutch for some people.

When I was diagnosed diabetic some 35 or so years ago I hated the taste of artificial sweeteners. But newly diagnosed diabetic knew also I had to cut way back on sugar. So for a couple weeks I mixed regular soda with diet soda half and half. Them went cold turkey diet soda only for the next 30 years. And plenty of it.

When wife and I went low carb 5 years ago, I kept up with the diet soda. But knew after a couple months it kept me craving other sweets. Probably the hardest thing of all for our low carb health improvements was finally giving up diet soda and sweetened drinks over all. Took a few months to totally get over it.

Have no intention of becoming addicted again. I just say no.

Freedom from addiction is nice.

I use lime or lemon packets to flavor water.
