Mid-Michigan | It is a valid question. Lots of studies have been done if you want to look. Very little is lost through a tile system. Here, phosphorus is a major concern especially in lake erie. I'm currently in a study with our local nrcs and they take samples of my tile water for nitrates a couple times a year. I lose nothing (at least so far). All my n goes on right before planting. Most of our contamination comes from runoff. If you are concerned you can get into a cost share with your nrcs to put boards in your outlet(s). It's a system that shuts off your tile. Very simple and can save water especially in areas that get dry. Email me if you'd like more info.
