Subject: RE: Tile

Huron county Mi
I do have some quest about projects like this and nutrient recycling. There was a 100 acre project in the Ohio area I believe where the farmer didn’t have an outlet for his tile. A 6 acre pond was dug for his tile to outlet into. His system is setup to pump the pond water back into his field tile using agri drains to maintain his water level throughout the field. This system has been in place for a couple of years now. I asked the guy who helped design and implement this system if they have to treat the pond water to keep it free of algae? His answer was no.

So how can it be that we are losing nitrates and phosphorus through our tile water that is causing massive algae blooms in Lake Erie, yet this guys pond water which is full of water from his field via tile outlet has no algae problems in the three yrs or so that it has been in place?
