Here's an accidental trial I had. My strip till fertilizer was off for a few hundred feet on this swath. The two ears show the impact of the lack of fertility.

One interesting thing to note, the corn on the right side with fertilizer showed drought stress sooner. As you can see the grey color and rolled leaves. I wonder if the roots got lazy once they found the fertility band.
