Subject: RE: Sand media filter design

Currently have a disk filter and have to clean it at least once a day. The sand filter was free so I thought I’d give it a try. Water source is sometimes from a pond and other times from a small well. The well doesn’t have the capacity needed so we fill a holding tank and pump from it when it gets full. Algae is the main problem from both sources and the disc filter lets a lot through. The greenhouses are certified organic so we don’t have much of an option to treat it in the holding tank. I was planning on using water straight from the well to flush the sand filter but I don’t know the GPM required to successfully flush it. It’ll be a single 30” tank that is manually flushed. If it works out we’ll add the auto flush components.
