South Central Illinois | We have 3 varieties of wheat. 2 of them are medium tall with the corresponding lower standability ratings. They are both planted slightly above the top end of the seed company recommended populations. They were planted a few days before the fly date. Excellent Fall growth produced 3-5 tillers per plant plus the main stem. 115# of nitrogen is planned, 1/2 of this is already on. We are probably on the verge of Feekes 5 everywhere. Seems like we are finished with tillering, which puts us at Feekes 4. Feekes 4 is the start of the Palisade window. Should we go with the Palisade on these fields?
The other variety is a little shorter with a little better standability rating. The population is in the middle of the seed company recommended rate. Similar planting dates, plant growth and fertilizer rates on all of them. I will probably skip the Palisade on this variety.
And recommendations on all of this? |
