Thumb of Michigan | IDK where HERE is, but you might want to establish some switch grass for hiding places. Depending upon where HERE is some frost seeding white or yellow clover into your alfalfa might work. I'd run a soil test to see where your fertility is. Forage oats are also a possibly (they work HERE).
I still have an old vernal alfalfa field that I harvest what the four-legged ditch rats leave, it was seeded in 2010. It's probably 50/50 alfalfa/Orchard grass. | |
