southern MN | Are you looking to just feed the deer on all the acres, or are you looking to make hay and have some deer browse on a small part of it as well? Not quite clear on what the end goal is.
I have a sand hill that gets too dry to grow row crops, put it to alfalfa and get the first cutting, bonus if we get summer rains I get a second or maybe third light cuttings.
It didn’t catch well planted a year ago, trying to think what I can interseed to help spruce it up as well. It came up well in most places, but so naked in others as if a herbicide injury or something in splotches. As dry as we are this winter I sure won’t try a real crop on it. Being a sand knob it’s not worth putting in a high dollar grass seed in these conditions. I might just try putting some oats in, see if I get a little bonus hay from that by second cutting. If not I didn’t waste much.
