I'd be just as concerned with the yield as the weed pressure. Seems competition keeps tillering to a minimum and prevents those feather weight oats from growing.
On the recommendation with data of an agronomists the specialized in small grain and forage we bumped our seeding rate from 3 to 4 bushel an acre for the same reason and we've been pleased with the results.
Yield stayed about the same, but the weight has been the best we've grown in memory.

Very much agree! I shoot for a seed drop between 1.3-1,6 million, depending on how late into the spring they go in, or how crazy early, too.

As far as drill run spacing is concerned, sure, narrower is better, but if all you've got is a 10" and it's "go time", drill it and don't look back!
