| I’ve been a livestock farmer all my life but always had a desire to grow some soybeans after riding the combine with my dad as a young kid. Long story short I bought a house with about 30 acres of open ground around it and I can get it planted with equipment from the fence row plus renting a bit. Because of my inexperience, I’m trying to keep inputs low so if it’s a mess or if the ground isn’t productive, it’s not too expensive of a mess.
Which lead me too the idea of conventional seed. Is there anyone with any knowledge about varieties?(I’m in northeast Mississippi) Or who a guy could talk to to get some knowledge?
I’ve been reading farm magazines and such all my life but if you don’t actually have ground to plant the technical stuff doesn’t stick. I also understand most farmers are going to think RR is the only way to go and I’m fine with hearing advice on that as well but for the time being low input/lower yield seems like an interesting idea to me. | |
