“These are the times that try men's souls.” | We never blow lines with air to drain in fall. We always put water lines to contour of land so we can plumb drains in low spots. Use curb stops valves and daylight drain pipes. Before turning pumps off I will work line backwards of fill and open first drain under pressure on end of line. So I know I have positive draining of end of line. Then keep working my way back to pump fill end of line. Then I turn pump off. That way I visually see all drains open and running water and no air locks. All drains are put in so water troughs, storage tanks drain as well. Sometimes have to loose float balls so you get a air break in troughs so they drain.
A lot of 5-9 mile water systems here are drained that way. We put all water lines by roads or that line becomes a road so we can drive right by line to service them. All you need is a water key wrench to drain in fall sure is nice. Some places if we can't daylight them, will use sewer domers to drain under ground. |
