Subject: RE: Best Data Backup

Milford, IL
I was under the impression that CD-R and DVD-R media have a 50-100 year life span. Been following along with the 'Insignia Live' project to bring the Xbox 1.0 console back online. My experience with 30 some original Xbox titles on DVD type media from 2001-2006 has been a 100% success so far, can rip the media to a modern drive and jump online.

4.5-8 GB of data capacity is not really scalable cost effectively, but the longevity seems to be there. I think, based on my limited experience (failed Hynix NAND chips on dormant Wii U consoles), I would trust long term dormant solid state drives less than a spinning drive. Powered on would be the reverse I think.
