I think aid to Ukraine is likely to be the best money we spend on defense in this decade. If we do not spend it now, we will certainly spend much more later. There’s nothing like signaling to your friends and allies that as a country, we really don’t care. Only thing worse is showing our adversaries we haven’t got the balls to stand up for our way of life.

You believe that Ukraine can "defeat" Russia? Or do you mean just engage them until Russia withdraws, like with Afghanistan?
If the former, what would a defeated Russia look like? Would they still have unspent nuclear arsenal?

If the latter, what amount of funding is reasonable and for how long should it prolong the activity? In that regard, what level of technical superiority is necessary to more rapidly bring the operations to a halt? If sufficeint A10s with training and funding were provided, would it end the situation in 6 months or would Russia become the guerrilla fighters? Would that cause Russia to step up their response?

If all funding were halted, how many lives would be saved on both sides and how long would the fighting continue?

Speaking of Afghanistan, how did that work out when the Soviets were in there and the US was funding the opposition (ie a proxy war similar to now)? 10 years. 10% of their population wiped out. 3 million plus. Estimated the USSR spent $115 Billion (in 2019 bucks). Are we going to outspend them again?

Some feel that our involvement in Afghan gave rise to the talliban and their buddies and subsequent attacks on us. Of course that lead to 20 years for the USA in Afghanistan and how did that work out?

Not that wikipedia is the speaker of all truth, they do provide one viewpoint: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet%E2%80%93Afghan_War

Being neither pro-Ukraine nor pro-Russia, I do sympathize with folks like Denn who are suffering because of choices they did not get to make.
From a logistical point, I have to wonder how certain scenarios would play out with what we know from historical situations.

IF we gave them "some" money to help them. How long would the situation be prolonged and how many lives lost?
IF we gave them "all the" money, would it end sooner and would more lives be saved?
IF we gave them "no" money, would it end sooner and would more lives be saved?
