childhood home of Randy Travis | I started with severally overgrazed KY-31 pastures as well. I found I had to tighten the cattle up a lot and get some pretty hard herd impact to stimulate the seed bed at all. So maybe tighten them up harder right now while soil temps are cooler (you wont cook all the soil microbes out like in mid summer) graze that KY31 down tight and look for them to break the soil cap. Tightening them up will let you rest your other grass longer. Grazing it hard will also give other forage species a chance to compete with the 31.
Eventually economics came into play at my place and I seeded in Cajun 2 fescue, orchard grass, red and white clover for more forage production. |
