Subject: RE: Alaskan cruise

NW MO
Did a lot of research before booking our trip just last week. Here's my take-aways

Princess is one of the 2 best cruise lines for Alaska per the what I read. HAL is the other.
Glacier Bay is considered a must.
Balacony is also consider by most to be a must for Alaska.
Room on the Port side if travelling South, Starboard side for travelling North.
Vancouver better than Seattle if you have a propensity for sea sickness. Middle of ship, lowest deck cabin for the same reason.
When you check itereraries, check the amount of time you spend in ports.
Excursions thru cruise line gives assurance they won't leave without you, slightly more expensive.
Princess Plus package gave us good value for the money. Drinks, wi-fi, gratuities, better restaurants.
Most recommend an extra day in city prior to your departure so you don't miss your cruise/tour from flight delays.
We booked thru Costco, but many say to use Travel Agent for first time. There are a lot of options to chose from I think is the reason. Costco does have Travel Agents, but they may not have ever been to Alaska to help guide you.
Fairbanks is best for Nothern light chances, September and later increases your chances.
From Denali, only 30% chance to see Mount McKinley.
Any stop and exit in Canada requires passport
There are groups on Facebook you can join to ask questions and get others opionions.
We're only doing a cruise, no land tour. We were initially going to do 4 days on land but wife's mobility issues scratched that. Consensus is if you do a cruisetour, do the land portion first, cruise after.
Things to do:
Whale watching excursions in Juneau and Icy Point.
Tram in Juneau, Mendenhall Glacier-multiple ways to get there.
Ketchican - Lumberjack show - kindy cheesy but still fun. Buy your tickets there, no need to purchase ahead.
Skagway - White Pass railroad-buy ahead.
Icy point - Gondola ride, buy when you get there.
There's much more, but this is kind of a book already. Have fun - lots to see!
