SW Wisconsin | So I'm looking into building a barn to start finishing my own cattle and was thinking about 80 head to start, they will holsteins purchased at 500 pounds. My dad feeds out around 400 holsteins a year give or take and buys them either freshly weaned or as bottle calves. He has 9 cattle groups and it is setup where we sell 8 a week and then we just move the largest 8 from each pen to the next one. My question is with only 80 would it make sense to do something similar and buy feeders and sell fats monthly or just have one big group and empty the barn at once? Sorry for the long winded post. (Also not going to put them in with my father's steers as he doesn't have room and this barn will be built on a farm I recently purchased and live on) | |
