Contracts have a 300# window in carcass size. I would say that 95% of the group will hit it. As for the 5% (1 maybe 2 a load) that you will get a deduction on is it worth it to save yourself a $250 deduction to run one or two steers to a sale barn and be unprotected?
If you grow a pen of 40 and have a scale you could always sort them off locally if that really bothers you that much.
