Have an old local paper from that era.
People must have written small personal stories/happenings from the week and shared them to the paper. A bunch of “Mr and Mrs soandso” spent time at the “Johnsons” playing cards last Thursday was apparently news worthy.
Zuckerberg didn’t invent Facebook, he just figured out how to put it on the internet.
Radio stations also had the social gossip type of programming, who was in town, what events were on, and so forth. Same type of feel to it. Then throw in a recipe.
