There is a game there to be played at DP expiration. In a downward market free DP grain often gets carried all the way to expiration, so the week or two leading up to that expiration those bushels do affect the basis without hurting the ability to source grain. Besides that's usually August when nobody is hauling in anyway, and elevators want to have a cleaned out house for harvest.
