SWC TX | Yeap, I’ve got some that looks like that on ground I bought last August. Previous renter made wheat hay then let a double crop of sour grass grow up all summer and sucked it dry. Thought we had enough rain over winter to overcome that, but I guess not.
Here is pic of that field I bought vs one that’s been no-tilled forever and kept dead over summer (these are a mile apart) and both got about the same amount of rain:
