| Something I would suggest would be getting a few seasons of the TV show Holmes on Homes and watching them. If you have never seen the show it's a guy named Mike Holmes who is a contractor that comes in and rescues people who have had renovation work done by other contractors who either didn't do the jobs correctly or never finished them at all. Mike is a perfectionist and even uses money out of his own pocket to make sure these houses are fixed correctly. He is very good about explaining what questions to ask contractors and what homeowners should watch for to make sure the job is being done correctly and "correct" to Mike is meeting minimum code requirements but usually far exceeding what code calls for. | |
