11 is too young to be in charge of anyone but himself for any longer than 30 minutes. Depending upon the child, 13 -14 is when we usually let the older child watch the younger one(s) for longer than 30 minutes - especially in the evenings. There are too many things that can go wrong to trust someone younger than that. We actually preferred our sitters to be 16 or older. Please don't look at it that you are paying someone to watch your 11 year old - you're paying someone to ensure the safety of the all three of them. Work it out between the sitter and 11 year old that he is the "assistant". He can help get food ready, help with house rules, etc. it will be much better received by all. JMHO
