central - east central Minnesota -

EricCKS - 8/3/2010 09:26 Curious how you folks did things. Got an 11 year boy that we trust well to stay by himself and even watch our 7 and 4 year old girls for 30 minutes or so to run an errand or shuttle someone around. The girls are not quite ready for brother to look after them for longer periods of time. So, we hire help to be present while we are away for the evening. Kind of bugs me to pay help to be around when the boy does not really need it but we are in the period of transition. And, teenagers gotta make money somehow:) When did you let your kids watch your kids? We are not there yet. Eric

JMHO - it depends on the maturity level of the 11 yr old. Heck, I've seen 11 yr olds that have more maturity, experence and ablities then 22 yr olds. The question is not only maturity, but experence . . . . what to do if there is a emergency ? Does he know how to handle the emergency's that could come up? Do he screw around to cause emergencies? Sitting younger kids requires someone that will not act like a kid and acturally work at elimanating risk to the ones being watched . . .. to know guidelines and boundries for all to follow.
