Subject: Basement drainage solution

NE Iowa
We have a 100 year old family farmhouse we are looking at renovating. The basement is poured concrete and in good shape except the actual floor. We do get some seepage after heavy rains or prolonged wet periods...like the last three years. We have looked into installing tile around the house drained to sump pump(s). The question I have is has anyone done this to an older house (or newer) after discovering water problems and more to the point, does it help alleviate seepage?

Is external tiling or internal tiling more effective? It seems to me tiling around the outside like is done with new constrtuction makes the most sense. Any thoughts? Sugeestions?
