Marengo, Iowa | Who carries a gas can around in their car? I do (Koskid's chief cook & bottlewasher) I ran out of gas at the busy intersection outside Main Amana next to a gas station but didn't have anything to put gas in ~ had to be rescued by a friend who likes to talk a lot around town ~ was so embarrassed, I bought a new gallon can and vowed to never have to use it ~ still new, still empty, never been used, still in the trunk as a reminder.
Puts me in mind of driving cross-country thru Ukraine with our exchange hosts ~ there are NO gas stations so everybody carries a trunkful of full 5-gal. gas cans ~ we stopped to use the roadside brush as a rest stop and fill up the tank from the supply in the trunk, then lunch on a cold meat sandwich that was not in a cooler, made the night before, had one bottle of carbonated water that had to last the 400-mile trip ~ we survived in good shape and good humor ... and cried with gratitude when we returned to America ... | |
