Baldwin City, KS | When it comes to maturity groups, I never have put alot of thought into what the numbers mean. I do know which ones seem to be pushing the limits on the ground that I farm, but aside from that I never have asked any further questions.
I remember reading in a post awhile back where a couple of guys mentioned the heat units in the beans that they were planting. I figured out that the heat units they mentioned coincided with the maturity that they mentioned. I always thought that beans worked off of daylight in relation to maturity. How do maturity group #'s relate to the relative maturity of a soybean plant? Is this a standardized unit, I have heard mentioned that a 4.7 of one company is the same as a 4.3 of another. How come they don't just take a stab at the days to RM like they do with corn? Maybe this is a dumb question, but I kind of get the runaround from seed guys that I ask this to. I'm sure that one of you guys has this figured out. Thanks for the help. | |
