Subject: RE: Our corn is so crappy

Malheur County Oregon
No Basin seed for us. We grow for Roger Bros (Syngenta) and they have quite a few acres in the Othello area also. They have been useing us a guinea pigs the last 2 years trying to find something that we can make money on and the only that has worked has been the P&C Early......sort of and looks like this Serendipity. Last year we had a bunch of Jubilee and all we got was cobs. It barely paid the detassle bill. If we don't make some money on it this year were done with it. It's a lotta work to break even. We really need to be netting back about 600-800$ an acre to make it worth our while to continue on

Neighbors have been doing the high moisture corn for a week or so now but it probably wont be long before things get to dry for it. We wont start grain corn harvest till about the 15 of Oct. The feedlot we deliver to want cobbage corn. Where we pull the sieve out of combine and just put in a screen on the chaffer that has about 1 1/2" holes in it. Then screw the concave down pretty tight and grind cob and all. The good thing is that moisture doesn't matter to them. The bad thing is by takeing the cob you have about 30% more material to haul.
