Subject: Re: No-till wheat seeding rates

Smaller seed has a higher mortality, especially HRW in ND, so I seed more seeds per acre of small seed than large seed. In effect, I went back to pounds per acre instead of seeds per acre. I still plant by seeds per acre with HRS and vary the rate based on seeding date and tillering ability of the wheat. I don't have experience with conventional till HRW, but when I switched from tilled HRS to no-till HRS I was able to lower seeding rates from 120 lbs tilled down to 90 lbs no-till and still have a much better stand with no-till.
