Subject: Warning to future CDL licensees

Central Illinois
I attended the Midwest Truckers Association meeting in Peoria, IL two weeks ago. A speaker from IDOT was talking about future FMCSA rules. As it stands now, companies are responsible for making sure drivers are qualified. According to him, FMSCA is working out rules that would require all NEW or classification changes to graduate from an approved school. Approximately eighty hours classroom and forty hours driving will be required at these schools. When these rules are announced, there will be three year grace period for these schools to get set up and running. The secretary of state wll not be able to issue a new CDL license to anyone without a certficate from one of these schools.

It appears that if you want to get a CDL, be sure and get it before these rules take effect. And if you thought getting drivers now was hard, wait till this hits the marketplace.
