Ripley, Ontario Canada
The need for 540 is not so much for high power applications, more that it allows a big tractor to do other jobs. It is nice sometimes to put a big tractor on a snowblower for example if it isn't doing anything else in the winter, or to pull a manure spreader, auger, fertilizer spreader without the adapters. It would be nicer still to have all 3 shafts on one tractor, 540, 1000 1 3/* and 1000 1 3/4. I am soon to be in the market for a 175+ pto hp tractor and am wondering if I should get the big 1000 or small so I could switch to 540 also. I don't know if I should put 175 hp through the small 1000 shaft but it would be nice to have a backup snowblowing tractor, and to be able to pull manure spreader etc that are 540
