Subject: Brake lights on IHC S1900

We have a 1986 S1900 single axle semi tractor. Just lost brake lights on both the tractor and trailer. Fuses are good.
Behind and to the right of the drivers seat is a diverter box (sorry, don't know the proper terms) from which the air lines go to the trailer and tractor brakes. If I cross the wires of the air switch on it, the lights come on. Removed the switch and it is an open circuit until I apply some pressure from an air compressor, then it closes. The engine was off and the air tanks are empty, so do not know if air escapes from the hole the switch mounts in if the brake pedal is applied and could not test it with the brake pedal.
Maybe something is frozen up?
What do I check next?
Thanks,
Ron
