Near-north Ontario, French River | You will need to have air in the system for the brake lights to work. As you already know, the switch is activated by air pressure when the brakes are applied. You stated the air tanks are empty, thus when you touch the pedal... no pressure ... no lights. Build pressure in the system( if you can run the truck to build pressure for some reason, "T" a valve into the air line at the compressor and use shop air to air up the trucks system) and retest. On our truck there are two air activated switchs, one for the tractor itself and one for the trailer system BUT BOTH will activate the lights on both the trailer and tractor. Its kinda a failsafe system I think. If for some reason you can get air to the tanks then yes you are froze up somewhere. Crack the air line at the compressor output and pour is a can of air line de-icer or mythel hyrdate. It will take time for the alcohol to work its way to the froze part but it will eventually clear out the plug. If you dont have a air dryer, look for any dips in the air supply line between the compressor and your first air tank ( the wet tank), this is the most likely place for a freeze. Run hot water , if you have a source, in this area and it will speed the melting.
