I don't see how, when the goal for dairy feed is a 3/4" chop min. that you can get that "flaked" result with a plate. If it doesn't matter if the product is mush, go for it. Feeding a dairy cow is way to intense anymore to do anything less than perfect. The processor we put on our machine was the 2nd best investment we ever made. The best being our tmr mixer. A good part of the power lost to the processor is made up with the longer chop length. To be honest, I'd get rid of any cutter that old for a newer one. A good one isn't all that expensive. my .02
