A center punch mark on one of the flat sides of the tip is a good marker to be sure. I like to mark them with calf tags or tie straps but that makes a good backup because tie straps weather and break eventually. 

Tie the hoses together and mark the left hand hose with the center punch. # of dots matches the outlet #. I,  II, III, and so on.
