Subject: ?s about flat grain (corn) storage----------

Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577

We will probably need additional storage this fall for corn (hopefully).

We have one machine shed which we can use for flat storage.

Assume that we cannot locate temporary walls........like the kind used for outdoor storage by elevators........... and therefore have to set posts inside.

What would be a rule of thumb for bushels of capacity?       Assume a 50ft wide area, and 80ft long---------what would be a logical rise........one foot up for each 3ft to the middle?  Peak would therefore be about 50/2 = 25 to center, /3 = 8ft......say 9-10ft peak??  Taller?

I'm estimating at least 25,000 bushels.........but that "feels" low........so the rise to the peak is the key.

How much stronger would a 2x12 wall 4ft tall, with support posts every 6ft, be, as compared to a 1" plywood wall with support posts every 4ft?  or a 3/4 inch plywood wall?

The floor of the shed is dust..........what do you do to eliminate the dust from the bottom 6 inches?  Run it through a cleaner?  (This corn has to be free of foreign materials more than what Cargill would take, for example.)

Aeration needed?  4 inch plastic field tile near the floor hooked to a plenum and big fan?

Comments are welcomed.

Thanks.
