Hail at the right stage can increase yield by making the plant grow more stems. But I think it needs to happen when they are about 1' tall. Too late now in my opinion.
I've seen it happen. The trick is to get the right amount of hail at the right time!!!
I've heard in China where labor is abundant and cheap, they will pick some stems off the beans at the right stage so the bean will grow more bushy to increase yield...much what hail can do at the right time.
