McLeod County Minnesota
I think you hit on the answer because my beans certainly have lots of stems. In fact it is downright impossible to walk in them because there is no room to move plants aside to make a narrow walking path. I did a quick pod count in outside rows but didn’t count stems. I seem to remember most plants had 3 stems—1 in the middle and 1 on either side.

Our hail hit in early June when plants were still very short with absolutely no wind so maybe we lucked out. The adjuster said we would have had 100% loss if there had been even a mild breeze because of the amount of hail we had—16 minutes of steady hail. Mother Nature was looking out for us.
