Subject: RE: Issue mapping fields - line of sight requirement

Thank you both. Using the drone loses a lot of its allure without full field mapping from one spot. Splicing small chunks of a field together from multiple flights would probably make my drone stay parked most of the time.

I was required to pledge to stay within visual line of sight when I registered my drone. It is on the UAS registration certificate they give you. This follows the FAA's Model Aircraft Operations linked below right off the FAA UAS registration page.

Hopefully this bill you are speaking of will open things up a bit if it passes. I'd also love to not have to either get my pilots license or pay a pilot to observe while I fly in order to do this commercially someday. Still hoping someone has a way around the VLOS issue before this spring.

The app I prefer is called Map Pilot for DJI by Drones Made Easy. It looks to be iOS only.
Here is a link: https://www.dronesmadeeasy.com/Articles.asp?ID=254
The app is $10, but you can then use the app to collect the pics and then stitch the photos yourself for free.
Pricing is below if you upload to them. Then you can view the map from your account or pay more to download locally.
$9.99 120 Acres
$29.99 650 Acres
$99.99 2,800 Acres

Drone Deploy ( https://www.dronedeploy.com ) looks like it has changed its pricing since this summer thankfully. I thought they were much more limited on acres previosuly. Now they limit on resolution, but support NDVI if you have one of those cameras which is nice.
$99/mo or $999/yr for unlimited acres at 5cm/pixel
$499/mo or $4999/yr for unlimited acres at 1cm/pixel

Both have generous trials too.
I'll ask one of these companies above what they tell their customers above VLOS as they are selling the mapping products that encourage mapping large areas.
