Agree w/ Hay Hud -- not much problem if the residue is standing. Have personally seeded into 8' tall weeds, thick as hair on a dog, and gotten good stands and a good crop. Have seen an 1890 go right thru forage sorghum (cover crop) over 8' tall and extremely dense. The South Americans routinely seed into standing cover crops.
