I for one think the Phantom 4 would be PERFECT for beginner flyers, because the safety technologies incorporated with it are far beyond any other drone of similar prices. The difference in price is minimal if you wreak your drone because it flew into something. It is essentially an insurance plan built-in with not premiums or deductibles. While the 4K camera standard on the P4 may be a little much, the fact that it WILL NOT run into anything in front of it (when flying in 'P' mode) is worth every penny. Not to mention the P4 is much more mild mannered than its predecessors in its standard flight mode ('P') and it also has the option of being a raging machine with the security of GPS still ('S' mode). Top speed in 'P' is around 25mph and the controls do not make dramatic changes. Top speed in 'S' mode is 45mph and every twitch of the controls is an all out uproar (which is a LOT of fun when you get used to it). On top of all of that, I have had way better experiences with the live feed video with the P4. It was clearer, crisper, and didn't lag or get glitchy.

All in all, at the rate technology changes these days, if you do not go with something "top of the line", in a year or two it will be obsolete despite how many people buy it. Companies are not interested in keeping up with old technologies. They will updating and upgrading to the newest, best equipment, and no longer supporting (as far as firmware goes) older models. Point and case: There are no updates for the P1 or P2 and replacement parts for the P3 are becoming few and far between. Not long from now, they will no longer update the firmware of the P3 making it virtually obsolete.

Some flyers don't update firmware, is a hassle. Logged many hours of flying on "obsolete" software
