Subject: RE: Combining lodged soybeans

West Tennessee
I've never found anything that actually solved the problem except to try and go against the way they are laying down. Even that slows me down because the beans want to wad up going in the header (the air doesn't help with that either). I always seem to wind up going directly with and directly against the grain no matter what I do. Some people believe in going against the grain and "dead heading" to the other end so that all passes go against the grain. I'd say you'll definitely get more beans that way, but I've never personally done that (dead heading costs money too, or maybe I'm just too lazy). It seemed to help me if I'd reach my reel out and put it down all the way to try and pick them up. One last thing be sure your header is as tight to the ground (float position) as you can get. I would think if you could get more downward angle on the cutterbar that should help too. Good Luck. BH
