Subject: Re: How deep to chisel ?

Thanks Tom. That's what I really intended to use but I found some new 3" twisted shovels that I bought many years back when I chiseled. I figured I might as well use them rather than stumble over them a few more years. I really would prefer a shovel that leaves it smoother like you're talking so I might just go get some straights. I haven't done fall tillage for years but I have a situation where I need to do something for my corn on corn acres. I have run a straight legged ripper at an angle in the fall with no prior chopping or discing and worked it once in the spring and worked good but my chisel is wider and I have rocky soils so I would rather go shallower in depth. Is 7" too shallow?
