Aberdeen MS
Bill,

I've taken it "maybe" one step further. I generally pull from 11- 13 probes per "sample". What I have done is grind the tube sides down more than what the opening is on a standard hand probe. Ground to the point that using a stainless kitchen knife, slicing off the exposed portion of the core, that amount of dirt from the composite fills the bag to the line. No more wondering how much of that 5 pounds of dirt came from where watching the rest fall on the ground. All of the cores are represented in the sample.

I also (might not be the best way either) send in samples from the 1-7 inch depth. The top 1" in the core I used to discard to eliminate added OM from the trash in mulch till systems. Hay ground I know is different and I sampled that differently too.

With going to strip till, I can now do the 0-6 again and not worry about bits of trash contaminating the sample.
