Robert,
I load semi trailers with hay and straw occasionally. I can't remember a truck driver ever helping load one, unless he is the one buying the hay. Normally I have 3 guys helping me: it takes two in the trailer and two in the barn to get it done in a reasonable amount of time. I slide a pipe elevator into the trailer and move it out as the trailer fills up. 4 guys can do a 53' van in less than an hour, but it depends on where the hay is at in relation to the elevator. With two guys, I would estimate 2-3 hours.

You should be able to get around 600 bales into a 53', but it depends on the length of the bale and the height of the trailer. We usually work with a broker/dealer, so I don't have any experience with Com checks, but based on the other responses it sounds like a good system for this deal.
